These pages are terribly outdated and many of the links defunct. I'm in the process of recreating them, but no ETA when ShepWeb will be reborn.

Macintosh Web Browsers

INDEX of Named Anchors in this Document:
Netscape | MacWeb | Mosaic

Netscape Navigator

(a.k.a. Mozilla)

Right now, the baddest Browser available!

Netscape has some very nice informational pages, dealing with Netscape itself and the Web in general. Here are some links in the menu heirarchy:

"Netscape Enhanced"

If you already are a Netscape/Mozilla user you may have noticed that some pages are formatted like you have never seen on other browsers. This is because it supports an expanded (and nonstandard) set of Netscape HTML Extensions. When these tags are used, the pages are often referred to as Netscape Enhanced.

Other Netscape features are Dynamic Documents, Netscape 1.1 Tables, Document Backgrounds, and of course the extensions to HTML 2.0 and HTML 3.0. There is more complete information in the Netscape Release Notes. With the release of Netscape 2.0, there are now Frames, and other enhancements mentioned in the Release Notes.

Of course not everyone thinks the sun shines out of Netscape's tush. Which leads us to The Enhanced for Netscape Hall of Shame. Yes, there can be too much of a good thing.

EINet MacWeb

This is a more stable product (in my opinion) than NCSA Mosaic, but doesn't quite hold up to Netscape Navigator.

Here are some URLs built into their Macintosh application (as of this writing, their Help and Feedback pages were still under construction):

NCSA Mosaic

This is the original Web Browser. People would use the word Mosaic like a verb (I can Mosaic there) until they started learning it was the World Wide Web they were plugging into and Mosaic was simply an application to access it.

Here are some URLs built into their Macintosh application:
